More about this artwork

The painting showcases a serene winter landscape by the sea, featuring a sandy dune partially covered with snow. In the foreground, the rough, textured sand and patches of snow blend together, creating soft, swirling patterns that evoke a chilly but tranquil atmosphere. Twisting dark branches and dried plant stems protrude through the snow, adding a stark, delicate detail against the muted ground. The background reveals a vast, calm sea under a clear sky. The water is rendered in shades of deep blue and light icy blue, reflecting the cool winter sky. The contrast between the vivid blues of the sea and the earthy tones of the snowy dune emphasizes the quiet yet vibrant beauty of a coastal landscape in winter.

Artist

Roman Borisov is a 1973 graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Design. In his watercolours, the artist recreates the old architecture of various cities (Vilnius, Lisbon...) with precise precision, but he has always been much more interested in decaying buildings and ruins. It is not without reason that he is sometimes called the painter of ruins.

The artist's work is dominated by a historical theme - his entire life is dedicated to the study and visual documentation of the architectural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and East Prussia.
