More about this artwork

The painting depicts a dramatic and moody seascape under a turbulent sky. The foreground features a stretch of sandy beach, rendered in beige and soft earth tones, leading up to a body of water. This water reflects hints of emerald green amidst grays, suggesting either a calm tide or a thin sheen of water left by receding waves. Above this, the sky takes over most of the canvas, filled with swirling clouds in various shades of blue, from deep navy to lighter azure, interspersed with white and gray accents that might hint at a clearing storm. The entire scene conveys a sense of movement and a brooding atmosphere, typical of a coastal scene before or after a storm.

Artist

Roman Borisov is a 1973 graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Design. In his watercolours, the artist recreates the old architecture of various cities (Vilnius, Lisbon...) with precise precision, but he has always been much more interested in decaying buildings and ruins. It is not without reason that he is sometimes called the painter of ruins.

The artist's work is dominated by a historical theme - his entire life is dedicated to the study and visual documentation of the architectural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and East Prussia.
