More about this artwork

In the painting "Sea, Regatta" by Romanas Borisovas, the sea stretches expansively under a tumultuous sky. The artist employs a palette dominated by shades of blues and grays, capturing the dynamic movement of the clouds and the undulating waves. The horizon is dark and low, suggesting an impending storm or the deep onset of evening. Whitecaps dot the sea's surface, indicating brisk, active waters. Off in the distance, tiny white sails are visible against the darker blues of the ocean, likely indicating a sailing regatta that lends the piece its name. The sky, a mix of lighter and darker clouds, mirrors the restless sea below, completing a scene full of motion and natural drama.

Artist

Roman Borisov is a 1973 graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Design. In his watercolours, the artist recreates the old architecture of various cities (Vilnius, Lisbon...) with precise precision, but he has always been much more interested in decaying buildings and ruins. It is not without reason that he is sometimes called the painter of ruins.

The artist's work is dominated by a historical theme - his entire life is dedicated to the study and visual documentation of the architectural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and East Prussia.
