More about this artwork

In the painting "Panorama of Dunes" by Romanas Borisovas, a sweeping landscape of a sandy dune foreground opens out to a vivid blue sea and sky horizon. The dunes appear windswept, with undulating forms marked by streaks and shadowed indentations, suggesting the soft texture and dynamic shaping of the sand by wind. A distinct path, highlighted by a series of footprints, carves through the dunes, inviting viewers into the depth of the serene coastal scene. Flourishes of vegetation, including tufts of grass and sparse bushes, punctuate the sandy expanse, adding a touch of rugged life to the otherwise barren terrain. To the right, a craggy cliff in dark hues contrasts sharply with the lighter earth tones, providing a dramatic edge to the otherwise harmonious natural elements. The subtle blending and layered color technique create a peaceful, yet dynamic portrayal of the natural dune landscape.

Artist

Roman Borisov is a 1973 graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Design. In his watercolours, the artist recreates the old architecture of various cities (Vilnius, Lisbon...) with precise precision, but he has always been much more interested in decaying buildings and ruins. It is not without reason that he is sometimes called the painter of ruins.

The artist's work is dominated by a historical theme - his entire life is dedicated to the study and visual documentation of the architectural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and East Prussia.
