More about this artwork

The image exuberantly captures a vibrant Italian landscape, focusing on a picturesque seaside village, possibly situated along the famously scenic Cinque Terre coast. The painting is awash in bright, bold colors, predominantly featuring hues of blue, yellow, and pink. The turquoise and navy tones of the choppy sea dominate the foreground, punctuated by small boats that add a lively touch to the watery expanse. The middle of the scene shows buildings tightly clustered together — a cascade of multicolored facades that suggest a busy, bustling village life. Each building, painted in shades ranging from soft yellows to bright pinks and teals, sports unique details, with some showing visible windows and balconies. In the background, a lush green hill rises, offering a natural counterpoint to the human-made environment below. The sky above the scene is a canvas of subdued pinks and yellows, suggesting either dawn or dusk, adding a dreamy atmosphere to the overall setting. The brushwork is thick and palpable, creating texture and depth, reflecting the rustic charm of the coastal terrain and the architectural details. The juxtaposition of the rough sea and the quaint village instills a dynamic balance between nature and civilization in this scenic portrayal.

"I have been drawing since I was a child. I had a wonderful teacher, Ipolita Valeravičius, at the Jonava Art School. It's nice when thoughts and feelings conveyed on canvas evoke positive emotions in people. Paul Cumes and Bob Mask, my artist friends from the USA, have influenced me a lot as an artist. My work has been purchased by private individuals from Lithuania, USA, Germany and Switzerland. I paint in oils. I currently live and work in Šiauliai," the artist introduces herself.

Vilma's repertoire is dominated by cosy images of travels in Europe and flowering meadows. In her paintings, Vilma concentrates primarily on colour and expressive brushstrokes rather than on drawing and perspective, and her images become a seamless, shimmering fabric. The artist is focused on maintaining a warm, light colour palette and a cosy mood.
