More about this artwork

The painting depicts a vibrant, bustling harbor scene, likely in the late hours of the afternoon or early evening. The background shows a panoramic view of steep, lush hills that gently roll into a distant horizon under a sky brushed with soft hues of pink and blue, suggesting either sunrise or sunset. The middle ground is densely packed with a tapestry of buildings rendered in lively patches of whites, pinks, yellows, and earth tones, suggesting the colorful facades typical of Mediterranean architecture. The buildings appear stacked closely together, some featuring what look to be domed roofs and ornate detailing that hints at a town rich in history and culture. In the foreground, the harbor is animated with blue waters, painted with thick, dynamic strokes, giving the sense of movement as if the water is shimmering. The harbor is speckled with numerous boats—indicated by less detailed, impressionist strokes of whites, reds, and blues—that add to the scene's vivacity. A couple of larger vessels can be seen, possibly suggesting a mix of fishing boats and leisure yachts that contribute to the town's seaside charm.Overall, the painting pulses with a lively, almost tangible energy, conveyed through the artist's expressive, impasto technique, emphasizing the beauty and dynamic atmosphere of a coastal Italian paradise.

"I have been drawing since I was a child. I had a wonderful teacher, Ipolita Valeravičius, at the Jonava Art School. It's nice when thoughts and feelings conveyed on canvas evoke positive emotions in people. Paul Cumes and Bob Mask, my artist friends from the USA, have influenced me a lot as an artist. My work has been purchased by private individuals from Lithuania, USA, Germany and Switzerland. I paint in oils. I currently live and work in Šiauliai," the artist introduces herself.

Vilma's repertoire is dominated by cosy images of travels in Europe and flowering meadows. In her paintings, Vilma concentrates primarily on colour and expressive brushstrokes rather than on drawing and perspective, and her images become a seamless, shimmering fabric. The artist is focused on maintaining a warm, light colour palette and a cosy mood.
