More about this artwork

The painting depicts a vibrant and picturesque coastal town scene. A bustling harbor filled with numerous small boats, each dabbed distinctively in white and blue, contrasts sharply against the deep blue of the sea. Above the harbor, the town rises steeply with layers of tightly packed houses in a kaleidoscope of sunny yellows, soft whites, and warm oranges. Central to the townscape is a prominent old tower with a dark roof and a weathered facade, standing as a testament to the town's history. The surrounding landscape includes greenish hills and a hint of distant mountains beneath a dynamic sky painted in broad strokes of light blue and white, suggesting a lively atmosphere. The scene is framed by palm trees in the foreground, providing a touch of lush green and enhancing the Mediterranean feel of the lively, sun-drenched setting.

"I have been drawing since I was a child. I had a wonderful teacher, Ipolita Valeravičius, at the Jonava Art School. It's nice when thoughts and feelings conveyed on canvas evoke positive emotions in people. Paul Cumes and Bob Mask, my artist friends from the USA, have influenced me a lot as an artist. My work has been purchased by private individuals from Lithuania, USA, Germany and Switzerland. I paint in oils. I currently live and work in Šiauliai," the artist introduces herself.

Vilma's repertoire is dominated by cosy images of travels in Europe and flowering meadows. In her paintings, Vilma concentrates primarily on colour and expressive brushstrokes rather than on drawing and perspective, and her images become a seamless, shimmering fabric. The artist is focused on maintaining a warm, light colour palette and a cosy mood.
