More about this artwork

The painting depicts a vibrant, picturesque view of Positano, a cliffside village on the southern coast of Italy. The foreground features a narrow, descending alley flanked by white buildings adorned with bright, blooming flowers in shades of yellow, red, and pink. The textured strokes and dabs of paint create a lively, dynamic effect, conveying the bustling atmosphere of a sunlit Mediterranean town. The central part of the image leads the eye towards a small, bustling piazza where people appear as small, animated brush strokes, suggesting movement and interaction. Dominating the middle ground is a distinctive building topped with a yellow ochre dome, likely a church, sitting amidst terracotta-roofed houses that cascade down towards the sea.The background opens up to a panoramic view of the sparkling blue sea, dotted with tiny boats that add a sense of scale and leisurely activity. The horizon meets a clear sky, brushed lightly with white clouds, suggesting a perfect, serene day. The whole scene is framed by a vivid sky and a distant coastline that hints at the expansive nature of this idyllic seascape.

"I have been drawing since I was a child. I had a wonderful teacher, Ipolita Valeravičius, at the Jonava Art School. It's nice when thoughts and feelings conveyed on canvas evoke positive emotions in people. Paul Cumes and Bob Mask, my artist friends from the USA, have influenced me a lot as an artist. My work has been purchased by private individuals from Lithuania, USA, Germany and Switzerland. I paint in oils. I currently live and work in Šiauliai," the artist introduces herself.

Vilma's repertoire is dominated by cosy images of travels in Europe and flowering meadows. In her paintings, Vilma concentrates primarily on colour and expressive brushstrokes rather than on drawing and perspective, and her images become a seamless, shimmering fabric. The artist is focused on maintaining a warm, light colour palette and a cosy mood.
