More about this artwork

The painting depicts a woman mounted on a chestnut horse, positioned on a cobblestone square in an old European city. The woman, dressed in a vibrant orange coat, sits facing the left side of the canvas, her back to the viewer, looking towards an ornate cityscape defined by classical architecture. The buildings bathed in earthy tones under a vast, overcast sky convey a sense of historical richness and tranquility. The encompassing environment is moody, dominated by hues of gray and brown, contrasting sharply against the woman’s orange coat, injecting a burst of life into the serene urban scene. This juxtaposition not only emphasizes the central figure of the horsewoman but also enhances the depth and perspective of the square, which is meticulously outlined with white chalk, drawing the eye toward the horizon where a church tower stands prominently. Two columns frame the foreground on the right, suggesting the viewer’s position on a porch or under a colonnade overlooking the square. The painting’s mood is reflective, poised between the stillness of the architecture and the potential motion of the horse and rider.

In 1976, I graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Arts and acquired the profession of a decorative artist. In 1980 I participated in the first exhibition in Vilnius, and in 1982 - in Kaunas. I currently live and work in Vilnius.

I am fascinated by images of old town. Especially Vilnius impresses me very much due to its atmosphere of the past.

I am presenting here some of my landscape paintings in classic techique: pastel on paper. I made these art works in Vilnius and Great Britain during recent years.
