More about this artwork

The painting "Conscience" by Raimundas Dzimidavičius presents a complex and multilayered visual tapestry, swirling with dark, tumultuous textures punctuated by streaks and flashes of bright yellow. The background is a maelstrom of grays and blacks, suggesting a chaotic and dynamic environment. Bold, fragmented forms and faces emerge from this tempestuous backdrop, adding a mystical, almost surreal quality to the scene. At least three distinctive faces can be discerned, each rendered with a unique expression reflecting introspection or concern. These faces appear isolated and floating amidst the abstract landscape, disconnected yet bound by the overall cohesion of the palette and key motifs. The inclusion of yellow elements, jagged like lightning bolts, injects a vigorous energy into the scene, possibly symbolizing flashes of insight or the electrifying power of conscience itself. The physical features of the figures are detailed and highlighted with a sculptural precision, set against the softer, more fluid strokes of the surroundings. This contrast intensifies the emotional gravity of each face, focusing the viewer's attention on the human element amidst the visual chaos. The overall effect is a haunting examination of the inner turmoil and moral complexities that frame human conscience.

Raimundas Dzimidavičius (1960) is a painter who constantly balances between abstraction and drawing. The spectrum of themes of the prolific author is quite wide, but the most prominent line is the line of searching for the human soul. The artist is interested in the coming and going of man from this world, his transience, the question of the meaning of life. Often, angels, beings from beyond, appear in his works; this world and the beyond are merged into one. The author emphasises man's striving to seek something beyond the everyday and to spread goodness.

R. Dzimidavičius has been studying at the Martinaitis Art School since 1974.

From 1981-1984 he studied applied decorative arts at ZNUI in Moscow.

For 15 years he worked as a painter and sculptor in the art workshop of the Anapa branch of the Russian Art Foundation.

Since 2000 he has been living in Lithuania as a free artist.
