More about this artwork

The artwork captures a fierce snowstorm, depicted with swirls of muted grays and whites blending tumultuously across the canvas, suggesting a blizzard-like condition. Dominating the scene is a mountain, heavily detailed in black, which rises jagged and formidable on the right side of the painting. In the foreground and extending towards the center, there are delicate, snow-covered trees, their inky black branches stark against the surrounding whiteness. This contrast imbues the painting with a sense of harsh winter coldness. On the top right, a soft red sun, almost obscured by the storm, casts a warm glow, which subtly interrupts the monochromatic scheme and offers a hint of warmth and solace amidst the overwhelming chill.

Artist

Monochrome ink painting is the basis of the artist’s artistic expression. It allows to capture the essence of an object, leaving aside unnecessary details, finding depth in simplicity, in emptiness, in unfilled space.

In her work, she strives to embody the principles of Japanese aesthetics, which are manifested in her work through minimalist compositions, subtlety, and calligraphic strokes. Working with sumi ink and handmade paper (xuan, washi), she mounts the paintings on linen and canvas, occasionally incorporating elements of natural wood. She mainly depicts motifs from East Asian landscapes and typical elements of the Lithuanian landscape that are so close to her heart - cranes, herons, lush grassy hills. She relies on the inner emotion conveyed by the brush itself - the brush dances and the ink sings. Then a hill appears in one place, a lakeside or a fisherman's boat in another.

In her artistic journey, she involves the philosophy of exploration and discovery. The artist manifests her creative path by observing nature and by practicing being in the moment: slowing down, noticing, reflecting, embracing the essence of life in all its darkness and light, shadow and light, emptiness and abundance.

In 2024, the artist had 2 solo exhibitions. She also regularly holds ink painting and other, Japanese culture inspired, workshops.

In 2022, she published a book for kids in two languages, which she has both written and illustrated.
