More about this artwork

The watercolor captures a narrow sunlit street of San Remo's old town, drawing the viewer into a world of rustic charm with its old buildings flanking the sides. The aged facades painted in harmonious surges of earthy reds, subtle greens, and muted creams add a rich sense of history. Shadows and light dance across the cobblestone path, suggesting the quiet bustle of a day. Delicate laundry hangs out on a line, swaying in a gentle breeze, infusing life into the scene. Further down the street, an archway bridges over, contributing an element of intrigue and architecture to the composition. This ethereal portrayal not only transports one to this quaint Italian locale but also evokes the timeless beauty of a serene, everyday moment caught in time.

Artist

Watercolour is a big part of my life. Just like in life, it is impossible to predict everything and plan every moment. Every brushstroke and every drop of paint is full of secrets and surprises, you never know what is waiting for you.

This technique is quite difficult and capricious. It takes skill, patience and consistency to unlock its possibilities and subtleties. But that's what fascinates me about watercolour. The ability to express feelings in water and the colours that melt in it is enchanting and bewitching. The charm of watercolour, its spell, never leaves you, never leaves you alone...

In 1986 I graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where I studied interior design and architecture. After that I worked a lot in mixed watercolour and pastel techniques. After a while, I turned to architecture and spent many years in this field. When I was designing, I always felt how much I missed watercolour, that free, flowing touch, and I always dreamed of going back to it, and I did.

I am again exhibiting in Lithuania and abroad. In the last few years I have participated in international watercolour exhibitions in Peru, Vietnam, Finland, Japan.
