More about this artwork

The painting ’’Colors of Venice’’ frames a vivid and bustling Venetian canal, flanked by a series of tall, narrow buildings drenched in sunlight. Rendered in expressive, thick brushstrokes of whites, blues, pinks, and ochres, the facades of these structures display an array of shaded windows and balconies, some adorned with greenery. The river itself is a deep blue, textured with strokes of white and cyan, reflecting the bright sky and hints of buildings along its shimmering surface. In the heart of the composition, two slender boats navigate the waters, guided by figures, adding life and motion to the serene waterway. The sky above, a light blue with gentle strokes of white clouds, casts an air of a clear, peaceful day. This scene not only captures the architectural charm but also the vibrant, fluid lifeblood of Venice—its famed canals.

"I have been drawing since I was a child. I had a wonderful teacher, Ipolita Valeravičius, at the Jonava Art School. It's nice when thoughts and feelings conveyed on canvas evoke positive emotions in people. Paul Cumes and Bob Mask, my artist friends from the USA, have influenced me a lot as an artist. My work has been purchased by private individuals from Lithuania, USA, Germany and Switzerland. I paint in oils. I currently live and work in Šiauliai," the artist introduces herself.

Vilma's repertoire is dominated by cosy images of travels in Europe and flowering meadows. In her paintings, Vilma concentrates primarily on colour and expressive brushstrokes rather than on drawing and perspective, and her images become a seamless, shimmering fabric. The artist is focused on maintaining a warm, light colour palette and a cosy mood.
