More about this artwork

In the serene yet evocative scene of "Black Crow," a solitary, leafless tree stands stark against a cool, teal sky, cementing a somber wintery landscape. A black crow, the embodiment of both mystique and forewarning, perches quietly on one of the upper branches, overseeing the scene. Below, a figure, swathed in a white scarf and a dark green coat, stands with her back to the viewer, gazing up at the crow. Her posture suggests a contemplative, perhaps mournful interaction with her feathered counterpart. The ground, covered in a layer of snow, reflects the muted light, enhancing the quiet isolation of the setting, while in the backdrop, faint silhouettes of distant trees line the horizon, adding depth and a sense of expansiveness to the otherwise intimate moment captured here. Delicate snowflakes drift down, adding a touch of gentle movement to the stillness enveloping this winter dialogue between human and nature.

Salvija Vaičikonytė (1995) is an active artist and illustrator of the younger generation, who graduated from Vilnius College of Technology and Design in 2015 with a degree in Graphic Design. She has held several solo exhibitions, participated in various creative projects and group exhibitions in Lithuania, Belgium and the Czech Republic. The author is interested in the themes of man and nature, loneliness, longing for closeness. Her work is characterised by a minimal amount of elements and colours, rather the author searches for a gradation of colour tones. Salvia's line is graphic, her shapes are stylised, creating an illustrative, almost poster-like image.

There is a complete calmness and concentration in Salvia's works, the surface of the water is not swept by the waves, no clouds roll across the sky, no wind bends the trees, and the protagonists are focused on the action or on their own inner thoughts, enveloped in a gentle melancholy.
