More about this artwork

The painting depicts a surreal, elongated figure in various shades of blue, contorted and floating against a dark green, almost black, background. The figure is composed of smooth, flowing lines that suggest a sense of movement and fluidity. Each limb and the torso are exaggerated and morphed, not adhering to natural human proportions, possibly conveying a dream-like or otherworldly scenario. The head is tilted backwards in an unnatural angle, enhancing the overall sense of distortion and abstraction pervasive throughout the work. The use of color contrasts starkly, with the luminous blue tones of the figure standing out against the somber backdrop, directing the viewer's focus primarily to the figure itself. The painting exudes a mix of tranquility and discomfort, inviting the viewer to navigate through its complex emotional and visual layers.

Artist

Majd Kara is a Syrian-born painter based in Vilnius, who studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Damascus University. He has been living in Lithuania since 2016 and has already held three solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions.

"My paintings, each in its own way, deal with the idea of human transformation and spiritual rebirth. As soon as we are born, we begin a long and transformative journey. Spiritual change is stimulated by society, religion, politics, shocking experiences. And also the people we meet. Each painting is a window into a particular process of human transformation," says the artist about his work.

Kara expresses all this through deformed bodies, their parts separated from the whole. Note that these bodies are often missing their heads, or they have been replaced by running, flowing patches of paint, as if one has disappeared only to be replaced by another. Or you could look at it another way - the real change is not in the mind. These motifs are often accompanied by a blood-red tinge as a sign that the change, the transformation, is not something easy, but inevitable. With his combinations of shapes, compositions and colours, the artist seeks to perplex the viewer and stir his thoughts.
