More about this artwork

The painting "Show Must Go On" by Aurelija Kairytė Smolianskienė is a vibrant, chaotic blend of colors and intricate detail, predominated by deep reds and purples. At first glance, the composition seems to overflow with activity, featuring a variety of figures and forms intertwined in a dynamic display. Central to the scene is a clown-faced figure, possibly denoting theatrical or performative elements inherent in the title.Surrounding this figure are diverse, somewhat surreal characters and objects: animals that appear to blend into humans, faces within elaborate costumes, abstract patterns, and splashes of color suggesting emotions or movement. Each part of the canvas holds a miniature scene or a character with a distinct expression or stance, contributing to the overall sense of an ongoing spectacle or drama.Floating forms that could be interpreted as symbolic or playful elements—such as balloons, masks, or theatrical props—permeate the landscape, enhancing the dream-like, fantastical quality of the work. The background and less defined areas of the painting are filled with washes and splatters of color that suggest a state of flux, aligning with the concept of an ongoing show that must continue through various transformations and expressions. The artwork exudes a raw, almost carnival-like energy that captures and holds the viewer's attention, challenging them to make sense of the vivid chaos.

Help

I am a painter whose works have been displayed at multiple local exhibitions here in Lithuania. My technique primarily involves the use of watercolour and oil on canvas, combined to get an aesthetically pleasing synergy of colour and form. Living in an animal farm deep within Lithuanian countryside, surrounded by velvet lakes and untamed woods, my inspiration comes from nature, local folktales and fantasies they arouse. I am inspired by my personal experiences, some, as an artist in Lithuanian countryside, and thus when asked to explain my imagery I often find myself at a loss, unable to ascribe a single source of meaning. I graduated from the National School of Art and in 2008 I was awarded the Master of Arts by Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania.
