More about this artwork

The painting depicts a majestic peacock standing confidently with its plumage displayed in a glorious fan. The peacock's body and head are primarily in shades of vibrant blue, highlighting the subtle contours and feather details that bring the figure to life. The eyes are expressive and characterized by a touch of whimsy, accentuated by dark, sweeping eyelashes and a proud, curved beak. The real spectacle, however, lies in the peacock’s tail, which is magnificently spread out behind it. Each feather is intricately detailed, with a rich golden background that enhances the visual impact of the blue and green eye-patterns scattered throughout the plumage. These eyelets shimmer with hints of brighter blue and circles of black, creating a hypnotic effect that draws the viewer’s gaze across the texture-rich backdrop. The use of white lines and swirls adds a dynamic, almost ethereal quality to the feathers, suggesting a delicate interplay of light and shadow. The overall composition exudes a regal and opulent aura, with the golden tones providing a stark contrast that further emphasizes the peacock’s vibrant colors and proud pose. The artwork captures not just the physical beauty of the peacock but also its symbolic association with grace, beauty, and the allure of nature.

Laima Žeimienė develops two very different styles and genres of painting. The first one is photographic precision images of animals, which require not only knowledge of technique, but also great care. The artist herself says:

"I am drawn to the pure earthiness, the fleshly form, the animalism. I don't pull my characters out of the realm of supernatural fantasy, I don't try to transcend reality to achieve the extraordinary. In my laboratory, I "grow animals hair by hair". I try to paint the tiniest details, barely visible to the eye, with microscopic consistency, just photographically. On canvas, I recreate a natural existence, a perfect creation of nature - an animal."

The second strand of her work is cast abstraction, which also seeks to reveal natural phenomena, but in a completely different way:

"The colourful culture, philosophy, meditative practice and proximity to nature of the Far East inspired another theme in my paintings - flow. The paint is poured freely, flows untouched and pools to reveal hidden shapes, colours and textures. The unrestricted flow of colour and controlled chance create a work that depicts nature and its phenomena. I call this way and technique of painting a meditation, where the process itself, the direct experience, is everything: here and now."
