More about this artwork

The painting "Flying State II" by Ainė Jacytė features a striking and somewhat enigmatic face, abstractly rendered in watercolor. Dominating the composition is a face that stares directly at the viewer with an intense and piercing gaze. The face is composed of neutral tones mixed with deep blues, giving it a cool, spectral quality. Above the eyes, where eyebrows typically reside, the colors bleed upward in an array of dark streaks, suggesting disarray or fluidity, as if the very thoughts or being of the figure are vaporizing or blending into the surrounding space. The eyes are almond-shaped, outlined in black, and rendered with stark white and gray irises that stand out against the darker tones of the face, conveying a sharp, almost haunting expression. High on the cheeks, just below the eyes, are two vivid red patches, imparting a dramatic, almost theatrical quality to the visage. The lips are subtle and set in a slightly open position with a hint of sharp teeth visible, suggesting a whisper or a breath being taken. This face seems to emerge from the discolored, mottled background of watercolors that flow and ebb in shades of brown and gray, merging with the face at places, obscuring clear boundaries. The whole artwork has an ephemeral, dreamlike quality, as if the figure represents a vision or a fleeting state of thought or emotion caught momentarily on paper.

Artist

In 2011 I completed my bachelor's studies (painting) at the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, in 2013 - I received a master's degree from Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.

I have been drawing for a long time. Even before I started studying, I discovered an authentic, graphic style and started creating. The empty space of a sheet of paper and black ink made it possible to fulfill all fantasies.

Since I was studying painting, naturally colours appeared in my drawings, I started breaking the rules of academic drawing.

Every drawing is an experience of freedom for me. Freedom to be and create.
