More about this artwork

The painting depicts a quaint cobblestone street in an old town, lined with buildings that have an old-world charm. Their facades are richly textured, featuring a mix of warm yellows, soft whites, and patches of brick visible under peeling plaster. Archways and vintage lanterns add to the historic feel. Overhead, a complex network of what appears to be electrical lines adds a modern touch to the otherwise aged setting. A grey, overcast sky looms above, with light brushstrokes suggesting either the beginning of a sunset or the remnants of a passing storm. Two figures, abstractly represented and cloaked in gentle shades of pink and purple, walk towards each other in the middle of the street, adding life and movement to the serene, architectural beauty around them.

Arūnas Vasiliauskas (born in 1942) is a creator, artist, social activist, ethnographer and watercolourist.

Arūnas prefers the sensitive technique of watercolour and landscapes of his native Lithuania, where he tries to convey the fragility of the balance of our world and the fleeting nature of the moment, but without any drama; on the contrary, his works are filled with calmness, confidence and wisdom. Trust in nature. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about Arūnas's landscapes is that you can feel the light changing, the clouds rolling across the sky and the grasses swaying in the wind - they are not static, they capture the feeling of the moment perfectly, and the artist's paintings convey not only colours and shapes, but also smells and sounds.

Arūnas taught for many years at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and the Children's Art School. He worked as a painter at the Šiauliai Aušra Museum and was chairman of the Šiauliai branch of the Lithuanian Artists' Union.  He taught at the Šiauliai Conservatoire (now the Šiauliai Sauliaus Sondeckis Art Gymnasium).

He still participates in international exhibitions, both solo and group.

In 1996 participated in the exhibition of the artistic part of the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Vasiliauskas' works have been acquired by Lithuanian museums. A large part of them are in private Lithuanian and foreign collections.
