More about this artwork

In the painting "Winter's Landscape" by Arūnas Vasiliauskas, a serene, snow-covered field stretches out, divided by the fading traces of a narrow path or a country road, leading the eye towards the horizon where a line of delicate, leafless trees stands guard. The trees, with their fragile, intricate branches, form a gentle canopy over the landscape. On either side of the path, sporadic fence posts peek through the snow, suggesting the borders of forgotten farmland or pasture. The sky above is a washed-out grey, hinting at the cold, bleakness of winter, yet there's a certain softness in the air, possibly a gentle snowfall. Far in the background, the vague shapes of buildings or rural structures can be made out, their details obscured by the distance and mist, adding a sense of isolation and quiet to the scene. The entire tableau is rendered in muted hues of white, grey, and light blue, evoking a silent, frosty day in the countryside.

Arūnas Vasiliauskas (born in 1942) is a creator, artist, social activist, ethnographer and watercolourist.

Arūnas prefers the sensitive technique of watercolour and landscapes of his native Lithuania, where he tries to convey the fragility of the balance of our world and the fleeting nature of the moment, but without any drama; on the contrary, his works are filled with calmness, confidence and wisdom. Trust in nature. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about Arūnas's landscapes is that you can feel the light changing, the clouds rolling across the sky and the grasses swaying in the wind - they are not static, they capture the feeling of the moment perfectly, and the artist's paintings convey not only colours and shapes, but also smells and sounds.

Arūnas taught for many years at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and the Children's Art School. He worked as a painter at the Šiauliai Aušra Museum and was chairman of the Šiauliai branch of the Lithuanian Artists' Union.  He taught at the Šiauliai Conservatoire (now the Šiauliai Sauliaus Sondeckis Art Gymnasium).

He still participates in international exhibitions, both solo and group.

In 1996 participated in the exhibition of the artistic part of the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Vasiliauskas' works have been acquired by Lithuanian museums. A large part of them are in private Lithuanian and foreign collections.
