More about this artwork

Inside an ornately decorated room, warmed by a palette of deep yellows, reds, and browns, several figures are depicted amid a scene that conjures a lively, almost theatrical setting. To the left stands a grandiose, richly framed oval mirror adjacent to an antique chair, suggesting a setting of opulence and historic flair. A group of four men occupies the central part of the composition, engaging intently in conversation; their garbs are colorful, embellished, and reminiscent of Renaissance or Baroque fashion, which adds an element of timelessness and drama. One of them, noticeable by his larger frame and striking red attire accented with fur and elaborate patterns, seems to be a figure of authority or importance, possibly overseeing the unfolding scene. His demeanor is charismatic, holding what appears to be a staff, suggesting his role might be pivotal in the narrative context of the artwork. Nearby, an indistinct piece of parchment or fabric rests on the floor, adding a detail that might imply a dropped or discarded item in the haste of activity. To the right, large stained-glass windows cast a cooler spectrum of light into the room, contrasting the warm tones with shades of blue and white, thereby creating a visual balance and depth in the composition. In the foreground, a young woman with a contemplative expression is seated on the floor, her position and the directness of her gaze drawing the viewer's eyes towards her, making her a central focal point of the narrative. Her attire, simpler and more subdued than that of the men, along with her contemplative pose, suggests a reflective or perhaps subservient role within the group dynamics depicted in this lively ensemble.Overall, the painting pulsates with a narrative richness, underpinned by the vivid depiction of characters and their luxurious surroundings, inviting onlookers to delve into the stories and interactions that might be occurring amongst these intriguing figures.

Help

I like it when my thoughts end up on canvas or paper. It's great if others like the result. It's even more fun when other people start telling me what they see in them, because it's usually not the same as what I see.

I think that's what art is all about - seeing your reality in a painting made by another person. I don't think you have to talk a lot about what you wanted to portray and why. Unless the painting is directly related to a story that you absolutely want to tell. In the end, it all comes down to one criterion - like it or not. Either your reality rings true in the painting you see, or it doesn't. And all the talk about the folds of the transcendent universe and the shivers of the soul is just a bit of a boast. It's much more simple than that - as my teacher once said, "I draw myself pictures and I feel good".  Telling stories is of course also important. Untold stories, like unpainted pictures, linger in the subconscious and gnaw like worms on an apple.

That's why, if you're an artist, it's much harder not to create, even if you don't have any fans. But if they do, then, oh, that's very flattering. Therefore, just as life is more of an exclamation than a noun, art is more of a necessity than a luxury. At least for me.
