More about this artwork

The artwork presents a dark, almost enigmatic scene dominated by black and white tones. It features intricately textured, abstract forms that could interpret animals or mythical creatures. The contours and details of the shapes are highlighted in white, giving them a striking, almost ghostly appearance against the deep black background. They seem to float or emerge from the darkness, adorned with what appears to be crowns or whimsical headpieces made of branches or icy formations, adding an element of regal mysticism to the scene. The background is minimal but features subtle hints of celestial bodies like stars or distant planets, enhancing the surreal and otherworldly atmosphere of the piece. It evokes a feeling of solitude and introspection, as if the depicted forms are enduring the harsh, expansive emptiness around them.

"I discovered watercolour a couple of years ago. I'm still trying to tame it, to find my own way of expression. I like to cast small format works that have a strong emotional charge of the present moment. I am fascinated by houses where interiors are adorned with many paintings in various formats," says the artist.

Aušra's works are dominated by plant and nature motifs, whose fragility is so well conveyed by the watercolour technique. The paint on the paper seems to pour out like the elements themselves, only occasionally reigned in by the artist's hand. The artist plays with the light and colour layers, preserving the impression of lightness and freedom.

Although she has only recently taken up watercolours, Aušra is not a new to art - she graduated from the Pedagogy Department of the Telšiai Higher School of Art, and from the University of Šiauliai, where she worked for 22 years as an art teacher and andragogue teacher. For many years she has been conducting various creative seminars, workshops and art expression courses for adults. She has been engaged in intensive creative activity since 2014.
