More about this artwork

The painting depicts an abstract landscape centralized around a massive, curvilinear stone-like structure with a rough, textured surface in shades of gray and brown. This imposing form dominates the foreground, giving an impression of solidity and weight. Behind it, slender vertical forms, suggestive of trees, stretch upward in alternating hues of soft oranges and creams contrasted against darker, shadowy tones. These vertical streaks evoke a forest at dusk, bathed in light that hints at either sunset or sunrise, casting long shadows and creating a vivid backdrop. Interrupting the stone's monolithic presence is a series of inscriptions, possibly symbolic or textual, adding a layer of mystery and human imprint to the natural scene. The painting's overall mood is both serene and solemn, emphasizing the interplay between the enduring earthiness of the stone and the ephemeral light filtering through the trees.

Kęstutis Indriūnas graduated from Kaunas Juozas Naujalis High School in 1979. In 1980-1985 he studied at the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where he obtained a degree in architectural design.

He has been drawing since his youth. While still a student, he began to exhibit his graphic and pastel works in Vilnius and Kaunas art salons and Kaunas artists' exhibitions.

Kęstutis Indriūnas' paintings are characterised by clear lines and pure colours, one of which usually becomes the main accent. Landscapes are constructed through the contrast of light and darkness, dividing the visible image into large geometric planes. The work is dominated by images of his native Anykščiai and its surroundings.
