More about this artwork

The painting features an abstract composition of old, rusted nails and newer colored nails arranged in a grid-like pattern against a dark grey, framed background. Each of the nails appears to intentionally occupy a distinct position, forming a pattern that intersects and overlaps at certain points. The arrangement evokes a sensation of meticulous organization and subtle color contrast, highlighting both the texture of the rust and the smoothness of the fresh paint on the colored nails. Some of the nails are angled at the ends, while others maintain a straight form, contributing to the visual interest and depth of the composition. A minimalist white line drawing, possibly representing a schematic or symbol, is visible at the bottom left of the frame, adding another layer of detail to the contemplative nature of the artwork.

Kęstutis Indriūnas graduated from Kaunas Juozas Naujalis High School in 1979. In 1980-1985 he studied at the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where he obtained a degree in architectural design.

He has been drawing since his youth. While still a student, he began to exhibit his graphic and pastel works in Vilnius and Kaunas art salons and Kaunas artists' exhibitions.

Kęstutis Indriūnas' paintings are characterised by clear lines and pure colours, one of which usually becomes the main accent. Landscapes are constructed through the contrast of light and darkness, dividing the visible image into large geometric planes. The work is dominated by images of his native Anykščiai and its surroundings.
