More about this artwork

The artwork, "The Mountain Diptych" by Indrė Beinartė, consists of two panels. The left panel features a high, sharply peaked mountain that dominates the composition, rendered in heavy, expressive brushstrokes that suggest ruggedness and the harsh, dynamic texture of rock surfaces. Above this mountain, isolated in the expanse of the plain off-white background, floats a small, perfectly round, solid red circle. The right panel portrays a less imposing, more undulating series of peaks and hills. These forms are inked with a looser hand, suggesting a distant or less imposing range. The strokes here are brisk and less concentrated, creating an impression of windswept, scattered terrain. The background, similar to the left panel, is plain, emphasizing the barren and stark nature of the landscapes depicted. Each panel carries a distinctly meditative quality, using minimalistic color and form to evoke a sense of isolation and the elemental forces shaping natural landscapes. The red circle on the left panel adds a stark, almost symbolic contrast to the monochrome mountains, inserting a visual and possibly metaphorical focus point.

Artist

East Asian ink painting  is the basis of Indre's work. Ink painting is based on the same aesthetic and technical principles as calligraphy. Indre is particularly fascinated by East Asian art, philosophy, poetry and nature.

Harmony, contact with nature, simplicity, minimalism, subtlety - these principles of Eastern aesthetics are reflected in Indre's paintings. The paintings maintain a beautiful balance between drawing and white space, the eye glides pleasantly through expressive, long brushstrokes, and equally explores the meticulously painted details. Unlike other types of painting, line and stain are more important here than colour. Whether the line is soft or harsh, solid and long or short, choppy, structured, we get a sense of what the artist is depicting and what she wants to say.

Indrė is also a debut artist. In 2022, she published her own illustrated children's book, Eido's Summer.
