More about this artwork

There is a solitary heron standing amidst tall, densely gathered rushes, depicted mostly in blacks and grays. The heron, poised and serene, appears almost contemplative, its long beak pointing slightly upward. Tall grasses arch over the scene with their feathery tips bending under their own weight, creating graceful arcs that frame the bird. Shadows under the heron suggest a water edge where it stands. The artist's detailed work captures the texture of the bird's feathers and the fine, wispy strands of the rushes, contrasting the stillness of the heron with the wildness of its reedy environment. Strokes and lines are delicately executed to emphasize form and movement. A bold red seal in the lower right corner adds a striking touch of color to the monochrome palette.

Artist

East Asian ink painting  is the basis of Indre's work. Ink painting is based on the same aesthetic and technical principles as calligraphy. Indre is particularly fascinated by East Asian art, philosophy, poetry and nature.

Harmony, contact with nature, simplicity, minimalism, subtlety - these principles of Eastern aesthetics are reflected in Indre's paintings. The paintings maintain a beautiful balance between drawing and white space, the eye glides pleasantly through expressive, long brushstrokes, and equally explores the meticulously painted details. Unlike other types of painting, line and stain are more important here than colour. Whether the line is soft or harsh, solid and long or short, choppy, structured, we get a sense of what the artist is depicting and what she wants to say.

Indrė is also a debut artist. In 2022, she published her own illustrated children's book, Eido's Summer.
