More about this artwork

This painting hosts an eclectic blend of imagery, adorned with bold and somewhat clashing colors. On the left side, two face-like figures seem to be constructed with roughly applied paint, their features blending together in a wash of red, brown, and yellow tones that give a sensation of distortion or merging. One figure appears to be smoking, as indicated by a white, wavy line that could be interpreted as smoke trailing from its nose.In contrast, the right side shifts to darker themes. A somber, metallic skeleton stands centrally, marked by its shiny, silvery head and neon green torso, which stands out against the prevailing dark, earthy tones of the backdrop. The green of the torso carries down subtly into the hips and limbs, infusing life into what would typically symbolize death. Near this figure is a skull, situated next to the ominously large numbers "12 8" painted in bold white on a black background, evoking the sense of a mysterious or significant count.Above this disquieting assembly flies a script-like symbol, possibly a "Ma," splashed in yellow against a haphazard background that shifts from light green, orange, to deep red, framing the entire scene with a hauntingly raw, energetic aura. The overall composition straddles a line between chaotic beauty and unsettling imagery, reflecting perhaps on themes of life, death, and the undefined substance in between.

Help

The most apt description of Roman Averintsev's work is primitive expressionism. His work is characterised by bright, pure colours and a bold, brash undertone that does not try to cover up or mask. Moreover, he often uses the contrasting black outline favoured by Gauguin, one of the first Expressionists.

The artist's works are born out of a wide variety of everyday experiences and memories, and he can tell a separate story about each of his works. The subjects of his works often reflect impressions from his long journeys and creative explorations. They are not only events, but also people, their relationships and feelings. He tries to reveal what each of them is experiencing and feeling, he is not afraid of being misunderstood, but he wants us to believe in him and empathise with his work.

Since 2004, the artist has participated in professional exhibitions and has had 6 solo exhibitions.
