More about this artwork

The painting features an abstract composition predominantly accented by a rich, rust-like orange hue, which forms erratic lines and shapes against a muted green backdrop. These wandering, somewhat jagged lines evoke an almost aerial map-like imagery, intersecting randomly, creating enclosed spaces and sprawling paths. The textural quality of the orange suggests a tactile roughness, contrasting with the smoothness of the green field. A subtle yet palpable sense of depth is achieved through the layering and the varying thickness of the orange lines, lending an organic, perhaps even corroding quality to them, as if they are evolving or disintegrating over time. Two prominent blotches connected by a thin trail of the same color add a focal point to the otherwise wandering maze of lines, inviting interpretations of random connectivity or deliberate linkage within the abstract visual space.

The paintings by Ovidijus Talijūnas echo Japanese calligraphy with their subtle lines, controlled style, and careful selection of few colors. In several compositions, the author uses black embedded with pastel areas within, resulting in an impression of stained glass. It is as if light bursts out from the depths of the canvas, sulking through a layer of colorful glass.

The painter's works interpret tradition in a contemporary manner, at the same time spawning an archaic atmosphere achieved using amulets and hieroglyphs of an unknown language. The aesthetics of written language are highlighted clearly: one can observe relicts of Braille, magazine cutouts and so forth. And even though these works are quite abstract, they're fairly associative, provoking the imagination, and bringing guidelines of possible interpretations to the front. The materiality of the paintings can almost be touched at times, whether it's realized through massive, monumental shapes, or using brush strokes as effortless as a summer breeze.

The artist therefore employs various types of paints, ink, screen printing, and combines it all to create collages of unusual textures and effects. It's also a combination of mastery, emotion, and authentic intuition.
