More about this artwork

This painting features an abstract composition dominated by dark, bold colors on a black background. Sharp, fragmented shapes in shades of gray, white, and streaks of red interlock and overlap, creating a sense of chaotic movement. The forms suggest a disordered assembly of elements that might represent mechanical or organic parts, intertwining dynamically yet without a clear sense of order. The overall effect is one of intensity and vibrancy, with each color and shape contributing to a tumultuous visual experience. The painting exudes a raw, primal energy, conveyed through the stark contrast of colors and the jagged edges of the shapes.

The paintings by Ovidijus Talijūnas echo Japanese calligraphy with their subtle lines, controlled style, and careful selection of few colors. In several compositions, the author uses black embedded with pastel areas within, resulting in an impression of stained glass. It is as if light bursts out from the depths of the canvas, sulking through a layer of colorful glass.

The painter's works interpret tradition in a contemporary manner, at the same time spawning an archaic atmosphere achieved using amulets and hieroglyphs of an unknown language. The aesthetics of written language are highlighted clearly: one can observe relicts of Braille, magazine cutouts and so forth. And even though these works are quite abstract, they're fairly associative, provoking the imagination, and bringing guidelines of possible interpretations to the front. The materiality of the paintings can almost be touched at times, whether it's realized through massive, monumental shapes, or using brush strokes as effortless as a summer breeze.

The artist therefore employs various types of paints, ink, screen printing, and combines it all to create collages of unusual textures and effects. It's also a combination of mastery, emotion, and authentic intuition.
