More about this artwork

In the painting "Monstera Travel" by Aurelija Filipauskytė, two whimsical creatures are depicted in a serene and somewhat surreal landscape. A large creature resembling a fish, with green leaf-like structures extending from its body, floats near the bottom of the frame, gazing upward. This creature has a notable detailed eye and a leafy extension that mimics the appearance of a fish fin yet resembles a plant. Portraying the mouth, a small green stroke adds a whimsical touch suggesting a fusion of plant and animal elements.Above this fish-like creature, floating in the air, is another character resembling a bird. This bird also incorporates plant-like features, specifically monstera leaves for wings, enhancing the botanical theme. The bird's sharp beak adds a touch of brightness with its orange color, contrasting the predominantly green and gray hues.Resting on the fish's back are three enigmatic figures, small and cat-like, peering curiously at their surroundings. These figures add an element of mystery and companionship within the artwork, suggesting a narrative or journey shared among these unusual beings. The background is washed in soft grays and blues, giving the scene an ethereal and dreamlike quality, which complements the fusion of natural and mythical elements. The interaction between the characters and their unique integration of flora and fauna elements create a serene yet intriguing atmosphere, inviting viewers to delve into a world where nature and fantasy intertwine.

Artist Aurelija Filipauskytė started her creative path 25 years ago with her first solo exhibition.

Since then, the author has presented 31 personal exhibitions of paintings, participated in more than 30 joint exhibitions in various Lithuanian cities.

Starting out as a representative of the portrait genre, the artist gradually turned to illustration. Soon the lives of postcards and literary characters for children moved into a big format and entered the wide world. New works quickly became regular participants in art gallery exhibitions, decorating private galleries and public spaces in Lithuanian cities. The author has managed to maintain her identity, not to interrupt the dialogue with her viewers and to remain faithful to her main topic. Silent observation of the environment, analysis of circumstances and characters remains the impetus for her work.

The paintings of the last few years invite viewers on an extraordinary journey through the surreal world of fantasy. The tale of the common existence of flora, fauna and man quietly spreads its spells. We invite gallery visitors to watch this extraordinary creative adventure together.
