More about this artwork

The painting depicts a tranquil riverside scene during what appears to be the early morning or late evening, as indicated by the soft, diffuse light and serene atmosphere. In the foreground, two distinctive boats with flat fronts and multiple tall, thin masts are moored in calm water, reflecting gently on the surface. These boats have an unusual, almost mythical design, with what seem to be eyes painted on their prows, giving them a lively, animate appearance.Beyond the boats, a gently curving shoreline lined with tidy, white houses establishes a quaint, peaceful village ambiance. Each house has a prominent roof and several small, visible windows, nestled among light green shrubbery and trees. A winding path leads from the water's edge into the village, inviting the viewer to explore its quiet streets. In the background, the scene is bordered by distant blue and purple mountains, adding a sense of depth and tranquility to the landscape. Overhead, the sky is a gradient of light blues and whites, with clouds softly brushing against an otherwise clear sky, complementing the overall calmness of the painting. This scene captures a moment of timeless peace, perhaps illustrating a perfect, untouched corner of the world.

Artist

Petras Kardokas enjoys travelling and observing nature in various parts of Lithuania. This is where the author's inspiration for his paintings comes from. The artist captures our landscapes as if in a visual diary, at different times of the day and year, but his paintings always retain an impression of calm, warmth and cosiness. The artist's gaze is gentle, respectful and slightly romantic.

He was born in Lazdijai district. I graduated from school in the town of Mosėdis.

In 1968-1973 studied at the Faculty of Construction-Architecture of KPJ.

After graduation he worked as a foreman in various Lithuanian construction sites.

In the evenings, fulfilling a childhood dream, he began to study painting at A. Martinaicis Art School, under painter Alfonsas Vilpišauskas.

Finally, since 1990, he has devoted all his time to painting.
