More about this artwork

The painting features a cluster of dried chili peppers, all connected by their stems. The chilies are depicted in rich crimson and burgundy tones, showing a variety of textures that suggest the wrinkled, slightly shriveled forms typical of dried peppers. Each chili is uniquely contorted, and the surfaces reflect subtle highlights that impart a sense of depth and realism. The background is dark and textured, enhancing the vivid red of the chili peppers and creating a dramatic contrast. The overall composition evokes a sense of rustic elegance and the passage of time, captured through the aging process of the peppers.

Monika Požerskytė (b. 1981) is a member of the younger generation of Lithuanian photographers.

In "Life of Still Life series, Monika uses her camera to do what artists have been doing on canvas for centuries - capturing various natural objects in the genre of still life (French: nature morte - dead nature). Like the works of the old Dutch masters, Monika's photographs emphasise the lifelessness of nature, showing how it evolves, wrinkles, dries, shrinks and fades. The artist's entire oeuvre is imbued with a romantic nostalgia, an awareness of the fragility of life, which is particularly accentuated by the artist's palette, which is muted, as if faded, combining warm and cold shades.

The artist's works are also distinguished by their materiality - the digital photographs are printed on plywood panels. The traditional genre of painting and the most common base (wood panel) sound completely new in the format of a digitally manipulated photograph. The texture of the wood adds warmth and cosiness to the artist's works.
