Dmytro Hunts skillfully creates landscapes of cities and towns with dry pastel on paper. About nine years ago, after mastering the artistically delicate technique of dry pastel (the artist also works with oil on canvas and watercolor), he embarked on a journey with this technique, creating colorful landscapes from nature: in Crimea (a part of Ukraine that was not yet occupied at that time), in Amsterdam, Paris, and London. Landscapes of the cities of Bulgaria, Spain, and Sweden also became part of the artist's portfolio. Since 2022, living in Lithuania, he has been depicting Vilnius, other Lithuanian cities, towns, and settlements.
The artist is a member of the Union of Ukrainian Artists. In 2022-2023, he was awarded two scholarships from the Lithuanian Culture Council to support Ukrainian artists who have sought refuge in the country. D. Hunts works intensively in plein air conditions, creating solely from nature. Mr. Hunts' landscapes are distinctive, expressive, and vividly portray daytime weather and summer moods, capturing scenes of sun and rain, as well as shadows cast by clouds and buildings. Urban landscapes are his forte. The architectural elements of the areas are depicted realistically, including churches, palaces, and residential houses. The artist is often drawn to the intricate perspectives of the architecture, with random passers-by adding a sense of life and the passage of time.
Dmytro Hunts was born in 1958 in Lviv, Ukraine. From 1980 to 1986, he studied at the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. In 2005, the artist became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, and from 2007 to 2010, he served as chairman of the Lviv painters' section of the Union of Ukrainian Artists.
