More about this artwork

The painting presents an abstract blend of vibrant and muted colors that seem to depict a fluid, almost chaotic, interplay between natural elements. The upper half features a band of warm yellow and beige, suggesting a distant horizon lit by a soft glow, perhaps of dawn or dusk. Below this, the canvas is dominated by energetic strokes of bright green, dark blue, rust red, and white, creating a tumultuous visual effect that could represent the tumultuous waves of the sea or roiling clouds in a storm-tossed sky. White and red patches, with speckled black and blue, add to the impression of dynamic movement, as if capturing shadows and light that dance across the surface of water or through the air, infused with the essence of a seaside environment under the influence of a powerful natural force.

Artist

Gitas Markutis has a firm place in the art world as an author of modern landscapes. In his works, we often see places in Lithuania that are familiar to most people, but we do not recognise them at first glance.

"Lithuanian nature is beautiful, but not all of the images you see in it are very picturesque, so you have to use your imagination to make the painting interesting. This is not always the case. In painting, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I always try to win back," says the author.

The artist often breaks down the visual landscape into geometric shapes, uses decorative contour lines, colour contrasts, and even if he chooses colours that are less pure and closer to nature, he often changes their ratio and proportion. The author likes to depict landscapes in which the union of nature and human works, architecture is revealed. In his paintings, historical architecture and nature always complement each other, emphasising each other's grandeur.

What we like most is the author's dynamic, purposeful and expressive touch, which gives a feeling of a light breeze, and the exceptional, unexpected, unexpected, artistic composition, which allows us to look at it from a different angle, and which at times even brings the landscape closer to abstraction.
