More about this artwork

The painting depicts the Kaunas City Hall, which stands majestically in the composition. The building, portrayed in a delicate and realistic watercolor technique, exhibits an elegant Baroque architecture with a prominent central tower that stretches skyward, topped with a weather vane. The façade is detailed with sculptures and reliefs, adding to the historic and aesthetic value of the structure. In the foreground, a spacious cobblestone plaza surrounds the city hall, where a few small figures, perhaps tourists or locals, are scattered, admiring the grandeur of the city hall. Lush green trees frame the scene on either side, their leaves gently portrayed in shades of green and ochre, suggesting a sunny, serene day. The artist’s use of light and shadow brings out the texture of the build materials and gives life to the serene atmosphere of the scene.
