More about this artwork

This painting, "Near the River" by Rimantas Grigaliūnas, depicts a serene riverside scene. You can see several buildings, possibly old warehouses or mills, standing close to the river's edge. Their rustic appearance, with peeling paint and exposed bricks, gives them a touch of history and charm. Boats of various sizes are moored in the water, suggesting a bustling but peaceful activity. The artist uses a soft, somewhat muted palette of colors, mostly earth tones with splashes of blue and white. The reflections in the water are beautifully rendered, capturing the calm flow of the river. Grigaliūnas' brushwork is loose and impressionistic, creating an atmosphere that feels both dreamy and vivid. The sky's gentle gradient, fading from a warm peach near the horizon to a pale blue above, adds a sense of time, possibly dawn or dusk. Overall, Grigaliūnas' style in this work is evocative and captures the essence of a tranquil riverside moment, inviting the viewer to pause and enjoy the harmony of the scene.

Rimantas Grigaliūnas' paintings are characterised by professionalism, well-mastered colouring, varied emotional mood and are compositionally balanced. The mood is usually bright, optimistic and enriched with certain subconscious visions. In his paintings, the artist pays a lot of attention to his hometown - Klaipėda.The city's distinctive architecture and old houses are often associated with the restless sea, sailing ships and the Dange River. The sea and the seaside are also an integral part of the artist's work. The waves and sand in the paintings are flooded with warm evening light, and the artist pays much attention to its play in splashes and reflections. This creates a unique, romantic ethnographic colouring of Lithuanian seaside.
