More about this artwork

In the painting titled "Cheese" by Živilė Rudzikaitė Matuzonienė, a close-up perspective presents a whimsical interaction between a woman and a large wedge of yellow cheese. The woman’s mouth is slightly open in a playful manner, poised as if she’s about to taste the cheese, which dominates the composition with its bold, vibrant yellow hue. Her lips, detailed with glossy pink lipstick, part to reveal a row of white teeth and a glimpse of a pink tongue, enhancing the sensory experience of taste. The cheese itself appears almost tangible with its textured rind and creamy body, suggesting a rich, inviting flavor. A direct gaze from the woman, unseen but implied by her proximity and orientation toward the cheese, establishes a connection between viewer, the figure, and the act of tasting. This portrayal blends humor with simplicity, focusing on the sensory delights of taste and touch, encapsulated in a moment of anticipation and enjoyment.

Help

If the work of Živilė Rudzikaitė - Matuzonienė had to be described in one word, it would be PEACE. Peace not in the sense that everything is broken, but peace as assurance, as complete trust in one's inner voice, which comes from a strong relationship with oneself and the surrounding environment. This is evidenced by bold, solid color spots, clear, strong outlines of the drawing and very sparingly, moderately used details. There are hardly any of them, but each one is important and significant.

The author herself says that she doesn't want to limit herself to one style or theme. Every cycle of her work is like a rebirth, looking for ever new angles, new ways to express inner experiences. Nevertheless, you will soon notice that the most common themes of his work are nature, its natural transformations, and man's relationship with it. The artist herself lives surrounded by nature, so there is no need to look far for inspiration. In the constant cycle of nature, she discovers the most diverse moods and experiences.

The strength of the author's paintings is their universality. They record states, transformations that do not change throughout the ages and are recognizable to everyone. Natural landscapes here turn into landscapes of the soul, through which the gaze can wander without getting tired and constantly looking for new interpretations.

In addition to painting, the artist spent a long time studying. She has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from VU (Vilnius University), and a bachelor's and master's degree in fine arts from VDA (Vilnius Art Academy).
