More about this artwork

The painting depicts a serene winter forest scene, split into two panels. At the upper half, the background has a soft, muted palette of whitish and gray tones suggesting a foggy or snowy atmosphere. Slender tree trunks, with patchy, bark-like textures in shades of brown and white, stand closely to one another, creating a rhythmic vertical pattern. The scene is peaceful but desolate, conveying the quiet solitude of winter woods.Below, the scene is visually anchored by a dark ground, resembling a frozen earth or perhaps a layer of snow-covered ground, scored by distinct, darker lines that suggest the contours of the landscape or trails left by the passage of animals or the wind-blown snow. The horizontal layers on the ground contrast with the vertical lines of the trees, creating a dynamic balance within the painting. This lower section is rendered in darker browns and blacks, providing a grounding effect against the ethereal upper half. The division between these two halves is subtly marked, possibly indicating a distant horizon or the edge of a snowbank.Overall, the artwork captures the stillness and stark beauty of a forest landscape in winter, employing texture and a restrained color palette to evoke the chilly, quiet atmosphere of the season.

If the work of Živilė Rudzikaitė - Matuzonienė had to be described in one word, it would be PEACE. Peace not in the sense that everything is broken, but peace as assurance, as complete trust in one's inner voice, which comes from a strong relationship with oneself and the surrounding environment. This is evidenced by bold, solid color spots, clear, strong outlines of the drawing and very sparingly, moderately used details. There are hardly any of them, but each one is important and significant.

The author herself says that she doesn't want to limit herself to one style or theme. Every cycle of her work is like a rebirth, looking for ever new angles, new ways to express inner experiences. Nevertheless, you will soon notice that the most common themes of his work are nature, its natural transformations, and man's relationship with it. The artist herself lives surrounded by nature, so there is no need to look far for inspiration. In the constant cycle of nature, she discovers the most diverse moods and experiences.

The strength of the author's paintings is their universality. They record states, transformations that do not change throughout the ages and are recognizable to everyone. Natural landscapes here turn into landscapes of the soul, through which the gaze can wander without getting tired and constantly looking for new interpretations.

In addition to painting, the artist spent a long time studying. She has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from VU (Vilnius University), and a bachelor's and master's degree in fine arts from VDA (Vilnius Art Academy).
