More about this artwork

The painting depicts a facade of a large, beige building under a vibrant blue sky. Scattered across the building are various grayscale figures engaged in different activities, adding a sense of life and narrative depth. On the top left, a woman leans out of a window next to a line of hanging laundry. Below her, a man in a coat and hat appears to be descending invisible stairs. To the right, there is a younger man, dressed in casual attire with a bag slung over his shoulder, holding a camera as if taking a photograph of the scene. Beside him, a dog stands alert and looking forward. Towards the bottom, there's a hint of a face, suggesting the presence of a child. At the lower edge of the building, a sign with the word “Šančiai” suggests a location, anchoring the scene in a specific yet possibly fictional context. Paper planes are scattered across the sky, adding a playful and whimsical element to the composition.

"The painter has formed a unique, realistic painting language, the plasticity of which responds to the content of the painting. Tomas Stanaitis became from nature and with the help of photographs and sketch drawings from his personal archive. The painter's attention is focused on the environment around him: he captures everyday images and analyzes the themes of time, environment and various experiences. Observing the environment, everyday life, the painter turns to himself: this is an autobiographical, diary-like nature of his work, but at the same time it is a story about something common to all of us.

The images of Tomas Stanaitis' paintings appear on the canvas with realistic drawing lines, generalized forms, monochrome planes and calm, muted color tones. Painting is accumulated and existential. The painter successfully combines the expressions of generalized and realistic painting. In this way, it forms a unique, individual aesthetic painting surface." - Painter, dr. Jovita Varkulevičienė
