More about this artwork

The painting captures an intricate hornet's nest nestled within a dense, autumnal thicket. The nest, starkly hanging from branches, is showcased in great detail, with its characteristic hexagonal cells visible and subtly highlighted by a creamy, off-white rim, which suggests the protective outer layer. Surrounding the nest, the background is composed of a jumble of overlapping leaves in various shades—umber, deep reds, rusty oranges, and muted yellows, typifying the fall season. Speckles of green poke through, suggesting a few leaves still cling to the last vestiges of summer. The textures are rich and brushstrokes visibly blend the colors, imbuing the scene with a sense of organic movement and natural chaos. The play of light and dark intensifies the depth of the foliage and the hidden life within, making the hornet's nest appear as a sudden discovery amongst the forest's decayed leafage.

For graphic artist Inesa Gervė, the colourful world of painting is closer to her heart than black and white.

She has been fascinated by fairy tales and illustrations since she was a child, and now she sometimes feels halfway between her childhood and the present. Her work depicts crumbs of dream memories, unspoken feelings and thoughts, identification with the leaf, the grass, the moonlight... For man is a small part of a big nature.

It is a kind of protest of the artist against the vanity, superficiality and consumer culture around her. For Inesa, art is a placebo from the grey everyday life, and only for a small circle of people, not for the masses, it is understandable to the core.
