More about this artwork

In the painting "The Fog II" by Vaclovas Vekerotas, a serene and misty landscape unfolds. At the forefront, a small, wooden boat is moored on calm waters, rendered in muted browns and grays. The boat is detailed with visible planks and shadows, hinting at a quiet depth. Surrounding the boat, the water reflects a tapestry of soft, intersecting lines and colors, suggesting gentle ripples. Beyond the boat, the scene extends into a fog-drenched forest. Sparse, slender trees rise vertically, their forms simplified into streaks of white and pale green against a backdrop of layered gray and muted earth tones. These trees appear almost spectral, blurring into the foggy atmosphere, which envelops the entire scene in a hushed, dreamlike quality. The painting captures a moment of stillness, with the fog adding a veil of mystery and quiet isolation.

Artist

Despite his long career, Vaclovas Vekerotas does not stick to one genre, so his repertoire is quite diverse: landscapes, abstractions, old town views, marinist paintings with Curonian Spit fishermen's boats. Vekerotas's work is characterised by a melting, widening and disappearing line and free, expressive brushstrokes, which are united by the occasional more concrete drawing.

The artist was born in 1948. Graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1973.

He is a member of the Nida Plein Air Association. Every year he participates in plein air painting.

Currently works mainly with the group "Plekšnė".
