More about this artwork

In the foreground of the painting, there's a white boat prominently positioned. It appears sturdy and well-defined amidst a sea of swirling colors. The boat's mast stretches upward, bisecting the canvas, while touches of rustic color on the boat suggest wear or perhaps adornments. The surrounding water is implied through a chaotic harmony of blues, greys, and streaks of white, giving a sense of churning movement. Above, the sky is dynamic, rendered in strokes of blue and grey with patches of white that could be clouds, reflecting a tumultuous weather or the breaking of a storm. The background features indistinct forms that might be distant land or other elements at the horizon, blurred and melded into the sky, creating a sense of depth and vastness. The overall palette is moody, dominated by cool tones with sporadic splashes of vibrant colors, suggesting either a setting or rising sun or perhaps reflecting lights from the boat or shore.

Artist

Despite his long career, Vaclovas Vekerotas does not stick to one genre, so his repertoire is quite diverse: landscapes, abstractions, old town views, marinist paintings with Curonian Spit fishermen's boats. Vekerotas's work is characterised by a melting, widening and disappearing line and free, expressive brushstrokes, which are united by the occasional more concrete drawing.

The artist was born in 1948. Graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1973.

He is a member of the Nida Plein Air Association. Every year he participates in plein air painting.

Currently works mainly with the group "Plekšnė".
