More about this artwork

In the painting, a vibrant summer scene unfolds by a serene body of water bustling with vacationers. Near the foreground, a man, possibly in contemplative mood, gazes out over the lake, his back towards the viewer, giving a sense of overlooking the scene. His warm skin tone and relaxed posture juxtapose with the cool, refreshing blues and greens of the waterscape, suggesting a peaceful retreat. The water itself is animated with swimmers, some closer, making gentle ripples, while others in the distance merely dot the surface like live specks. Around him, individuals engage in various leisure activities; some sit on the banks, dipping their feet into the water, and others stand shallowly immersed, chatting or perhaps taking in the tranquility of the place.Dominating the background, a historic castle-like structure rises majestically, a symbol of solidity against the fluidity and movement of the human and natural elements in its fore. Its robust orange hues strike a vivid contrast with the soft sky, painted in washes of blue and the occasional stroke of white, suggesting light clouds. Small boats, navigated by dots of people, punctuate the watery expanse, balancing the composition between nature and human presence. On either side, lush greenery frames the scene, enhancing the feeling of a secluded getaway. This setting is skillfully enlivened by the painter's use of loose, fluid brushstrokes that convey movement and a breezy, light-hearted atmosphere characteristic of a vacation spot.

Artist

Artist Rasa Staskonytė is an enthusiastic seeker by nature. Wherever she travels, she carries oil paints and canvases with her, because she simply can't help painting.

According to the artist, the best way to paint is to paint from life - not only the surface, but also the inner world is revealed. Rasa feels this especially when painting portraits of people - underneath the exterior, which is sometimes rough, you can see a person's experiences, and then you understand why they are the way they are. Rasa also breathes life into plants, using shimmering brushstrokes to convey their swaying. And all of her work is accompanied by vivid, transparent colours.
