More about this artwork

In the foreground, a rowboat filled with an abundant arrangement of cooked lobsters and clusters of artichokes sits atop calm waters. Lemons, cut and whole, are scattered around the boat, adding bright yellow accents to the scene. Next to the boat, a seagull stands on the shore, observing the scene or perhaps waiting for an opportunity to scavenge. The background features a softly rendered lighthouse emerging through a hazy atmosphere, casting a dreamlike quality over the scene. Dim figures, possibly human, can be seen near the lighthouse, contributing to the painting's serene and somewhat mystical ambiance. The overall mood is whimsical yet tranquil, suggesting a moment paused in time where nature and human elements intertwine by the seaside.

Artist

Artist Rasa Staskonytė is an enthusiastic seeker by nature. Wherever she travels, she carries oil paints and canvases with her, because she simply can't help painting.

According to the artist, the best way to paint is to paint from life - not only the surface, but also the inner world is revealed. Rasa feels this especially when painting portraits of people - underneath the exterior, which is sometimes rough, you can see a person's experiences, and then you understand why they are the way they are. Rasa also breathes life into plants, using shimmering brushstrokes to convey their swaying. And all of her work is accompanied by vivid, transparent colours.
