More about this artwork

In the painting, two figures stand on a plain, white background, dominating the composition with their presence. Both are depicted in a raw, sketch-like style primarily utilizing black ink, giving an impressionistic yet striking impression. The figures appear somewhat elongated and abstract, with exaggerated facial features that lend a caricature-like quality to their expressions which are turned upwards, possibly gazing at something off-canvas.The figure on the left holds a scythe poised upwards, its blade casting a small shadow, matching a bird perched seemingly in mid-motion. The scythe's handle extends almost the length of the figure itself, suggesting a blend of the surreal with the everyday task of mowing. This figure’s attire comprises a simple dark vest and pants, complemented with boots, adding a rustic feel to its appearance. The figure on the right echoes the first in style but stands slightly shorter. This figure also holds a scythe in a similar upward tilt, and just like the first, a bird is depicted at the tip of its scythe's blade—a mirror image in composition. The attire is reminiscent of work wear, functional and unadorned, also completed with boots.Beneath their feet, a range of strokes implying grass or perhaps the edge of a field suggests that they are standing outdoors. The simple, monotone use of color enhances the focus on the figures and their tools, delivering a stark yet poetic visual narrative. The artwork, through its minimalistic yet expressive technique, portrays a scene that is both everyday and symbolic, possibly reflecting themes of labor, nature, and existence.

Artist

I am currently studying for a Master's degree at Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Paintings ideas come from observing my own environment and then „steal“ some details of that place. These details tend to find me themselves and then I realize that yes, somehow it must be important to me, and I only realize the importance of moment and detail much later. The characters in the paintings are often influenced by everyday melancholy and in no hurry contemplating with themselves.

I‘m not attached to one technique and tool. I have noticed that I am naturally looking for different ways of expressing myself through painting and that is why the paintings themselves often look different. Often in the same work, oil painting combines with acrylic or spray paint and sometimes with markers. Almost every work is dominated by a figurative composition with large areas of solid color. As if two quite different art trends are merged - easel painting and street art. Most artwork distinguished with contour line and a bright contrasting color palette.
