More about this artwork

The painting depicts a surreal scene with two figures sitting side by side, presumed to be a man and a large cat. The man, seated to the left, has a slender, elongated form with sad, introspective eyes and a quiet demeanor, gently holding what seems to be a small electronic device in his hands. His posture is slouched, suggesting a moment of repose or contemplation.Next to him, the large cat, matching in scale to the man, exhibits a more robust presence. Its face bears a calm, almost expressionless look, and it has prominent whiskers and deep, observant eyes. The cat's body is dotted with sporadic, sketchy patches, giving it a textured appearance, and it holds a small, limp figure of a mouse by one of its front paws, presenting it with an air of casual indifference. Both figures are rendered in a monochrome palette, emphasizing a stark, almost graphic quality while playing with elements of proportion and anthropomorphism, blurring the boundaries between human and animal traits. The overall atmosphere of the painting is quiet and mildly humorous, seemingly exploring themes of companionship and the mundane aspects of daily life.

Artist

I am currently studying for a Master's degree at Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Paintings ideas come from observing my own environment and then „steal“ some details of that place. These details tend to find me themselves and then I realize that yes, somehow it must be important to me, and I only realize the importance of moment and detail much later. The characters in the paintings are often influenced by everyday melancholy and in no hurry contemplating with themselves.

I‘m not attached to one technique and tool. I have noticed that I am naturally looking for different ways of expressing myself through painting and that is why the paintings themselves often look different. Often in the same work, oil painting combines with acrylic or spray paint and sometimes with markers. Almost every work is dominated by a figurative composition with large areas of solid color. As if two quite different art trends are merged - easel painting and street art. Most artwork distinguished with contour line and a bright contrasting color palette.
