More about this artwork

The painting depicts three surreal, male figures dressed in yellow garments, each adorned with unnaturally pale faces expressing different degrees of intensity and focus. The central figure stands out with fierce, glowing yellow eyes and seems to be intensely examining a magnifying glass held close to a metallic surface on which two glowing bugs and a leaf lay. Each of the men wears a stiff collar and an industrial, cylindrical cap resembling part of a motor or machine, reinforcing a mechanical theme. Their caps are also connected by glowing, neon-like wisps of blue energy, suggesting some form of dynamic or electrical transfer among them. In the background, a solid blue sky contrasts sharply with these puzzling, mechanically-themed human elements. The overall composition conjures a sense of investigation, connection, and ominous energy within a possibly dystopian setting.

Artist

In our gallery, Gintas Banys is a painter who has mastered the realistic painting technique exceptionally well, and who has not become a realist. He takes our familiar everyday routine and crystallises the feeling and emotion of the moment, using various symbols of contemporary culture, recognisable details of reality, the contrast of black and white and colour, and different textures. The artist's main concern is to reveal a person's relationship with his environment, with the current issues and paradoxes; it is important to convey how he feels, to catch his mood. In the artist's opinion, it is usually the eyes that are the main accent in a work, which help to reveal the idea of the painting.

Gintas Banys is the ideological leader of the well-known rock band Pelenai, author of songs and lyrics. Painting has been and is an integral part of his life. "I paint when I don't paint, I play when I don't play - this is my understanding of my mission in this life. In painting, as in my songs, I pay great attention to meaning, to the transmission of thought, to emotion," says G. Banys.

The artist uses mixed media and likes to experiment. As he says, "I never know how the process of work will end and I am satisfied with that, because art is something that pushes me forward, that makes me live".

We are most fascinated by the synthesis of the real and the imaginary, the union of realistic painting and fantasy, which often closely resembles the world of dreams - the most tangible expression of the subconscious. This is where their impact lies.
