More about this artwork

The painting depicts a surreal scene featuring two contrasting figures against a shadowy, industrial backdrop. On the left, there stands what appears to be an old-fashioned diver in a heavy, cumbersome suit. This suit, with its large metallic helmet and substantial body armor, is tinted with shades of brown and blue, equipped with various hoses and valves. The diver's pose suggests a melancholic stance, his head tilted slightly downwards, conveying a sense of solemn introspection. On the other side, there is an ethereal, ballet dancer suspended gracefully in the air. She wears a simple, skin-tight costume that accentuates the delicate contours and lines of her body. Presented in a lighter, almost glowing hue compared to the diver, she embodies a stark contrast—light and agile against the heavy and grounded. Her limbs are extended with an elegant poise that reaches up and out, as if interacting with or reacting to the invisible energies of the scene.Between them, the background features dark, rusty mechanical elements like cogs and large wheels, perhaps parts of a locomotive, which ties back to the title of the painting. The scene is enveloped in a gritty atmosphere, specks of light barely illuminating the surroundings, giving the entire tableau an aura of mystery and a blend of despair and hope.

Artist

"Bonjour. I'm Ansis Bourquet, a man of art. I am inspired by what is beautiful and true. Triumph, victory, respect, spiritual development are my mottos in life. An art that protects, inspires, enriches one's soul and encourages personal growth. It's like affirmation, or a good niche perfume. A state of being happy, regardless of what is happening around you. A conscious dream that turns into reality. A conversation with yourself; rising above your limits and merging with a power that is higher than you. Dance, elegance, harmony, balance and inspiration are the language of my art. Words, music and smell are my colours. I believe that art renews, enriches, inspires and protects people..." - Ansis Burkė, a professional painter and a lecturer at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, combines seemingly incompatible things in his works: traditional painting of the highest quality and street art, as well as the signs of popular culture. The result is impressive and impactful.
