More about this artwork

The painting consists of two panels, side by side, each embodying rich, textured layers of paint. The left panel features a medley of yellow, green, ochre, and hints of red, creating a vivid, abstract portrayal reminiscent of a dense, chaotic woodland scene or a heavily textured bark of an old tree. The strokes are vigorous and varied, adding a dynamic and organic feel to the canvas. The right panel contrasts slightly in tone but is similar in its abstract expressionism, dominated by shades of green with patches of yellow, blue, and red peeking through. This panel feels like a continuation of the forest theme, possibly representing foliage dappled with sunlight and shadows, giving the impression of a lush, vibrant landscape. Both panels interact together to portray the essence of woodlands, or the "warmth of wood," through a prism of abstract color and form, inviting the viewer to feel the textures and the dynamic, natural energy they convey.

Artist

Junija (Yuna) Galejeva is an abstract oil painter from Lithuania. With a background in musicology, she approaches art with a musician's mindset, applying melodic movement and improvisation to her creations. Working with oils and acrylics on canvas, she explores color nuances and textures to craft emotive, rhythmic compositions. Intuitive pulsions lead her hand and brush into repetitive pattern-like compositions that expand on the canvas, opening up the viewer's field of vision. The touch is soft and meditative or vigorous and dynamic, according to Yuna's emotional inclinations. Either way, the artist welcomes us unreservedly into the intimacy of her psychological sphere, prompting a wave of instinctive associative responses.

Yuna's abstract paintings are a musical expression in visual form. The harmonious and delicate palette has a soothing contemplative aura that refreshes the senses. There is an emotional depth to the work which encourages active engagement with the viewer.

She currently resides in Vilnius, where she works as an editor for the national radio program LRT Klasika and as a lecturer on the history of baroque opera at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
