More about this artwork

In the painting, a pale human hand emerges at the center, rising vertically and clutching at the edge of a billowing white cloth, reminiscent of a bedsheet. The hand, rendered with distinct anatomical precision, is marked by delicate shadowing that highlights the bones and tendons. A slender red thread is tied around one of the fingers, extending upward and out of frame, suggesting a connection or pull beyond what is visible. The vast expanse of the white cloth dominates the upper half of the image, featuring soft folds and a flowing form, giving the impression that it is either being gently pulled by the hand or is in the midst of settling.Beneath the main focus, a muted pattern resembling a barcode or text in various shades of grey sections off parts of the white fabric. This pattern adds a mysterious or coded aspect to the otherwise serene and monochrome palette of the painting. Against the stark white and detailed rendering of the hand and cloth, a minimalistic night sky, peppered with small stars, occupies a small fragment of the background at the upper edge, enhancing the overall surreal and dream-like quality of the scene.

Inga Mrazauskaitė is a master of reconciling contradictions. She is guided by the statement that the process is more important than the result, but she chooses a surrealistic style of painting, which requires not only excellent knowledge of technique, but also meticulous work. Inga's painting style is minimalist, but she delves into her Baltic roots, which is why Baltic relics come through in her canvases. It's incredible how everything fits together and doesn't interfere with each other.

The artist's latest works are dedicated to the state of sleep, through which she questions which reality is more real, more important, the one we experience when we are awake, or the one we dream about. The broken red thread here symbolises the threshold between two worlds, the conscious and the unconscious, between the known and the unknown, while the Baltic relics represent the link between the past and the present.

Inga Noir Mrazauskė shares her unique view of a world in which value is not only what gives aesthetic satisfaction. The artist seeks to engage the viewer in a deeper dialogue with the symbolic visions reflected in the artworks. "The most important thing is for the individual to be able to find the sacred things that are obvious yet almost forgotten - reality is not something you can touch, it's more about what you can feel".
